Help Calves and Sheep Beaten for Car Interiors

Did you know that it takes an average of three cows' hides to cover the interior of a standard car? Some vehicles require as many as 15.

In the global leather industry, worth US$400 billion per year, more than a billion animals are slaughtered annually. Calves are branded on the face and cows and bulls are electroshocked and beaten before finally being slaughtered so their hides can be made into leather interiors offered by the world’s largest car companies.

Sheep are now bred to produce far more wool than is natural. Exposés from around the world have documented that these gentle animals are beaten, mutilated, and even killed during rough shearing, after which their fleece is made into fabrics used for seats, carpets, and panelling. Once they’ve outlived their usefulness to the wool industry, they’re sent to slaughter.

The production of animal-derived materials is as toxic to the Earth as it is cruel to animals. Vegan materials – even synthetics – have a far smaller environmental footprint, and many are sustainable, innovative, and durable.
